Even the youngest of babies have active minds as they lay in the cot, and the Starlight Dreamshow from Tomy is designed to occupy those little minds, then relax them and lull them to sleep.
Consisting of a small, plastic moulded star, measuring roughly 14cm (5.5 inches) from tip to tip, and 6cm (2.5 inches) in depth, the dreamshow includes a plastic strap to fix it to the cot.
 | Move the switch from "off" to either the "5 min" or "10 min" setting, then choose between pictures only or pictures and music. On the latter setting, the dreamshow will project small, pastel images of teddies, stars, moons and clouds onto the ceiling, while playing through three soft and gentle lullabies. On the first setting, the pictures are silent. If your baby isn't asleep by the time the dreamshow automatically switches off, just press the on button again for a replay. The dreamshow can also be switched off early, during either or the timed programmes. The strap can be fitted to the dreamshow to fix it to the cot side, or it can be used freestanding on a chest of drawers or bedside cabinet. We bought this for our son's nursery to help with sleep time and it really does seem to help especially on the nights where sleep is the last thing on his mind. As some of the other reviews have noted you cannot have the show without the music, which is a shame. There is a selection of tunes but they are a little tinny and sound like something from a 1980's keyboard. But the projection of baby cartoon images is bright, clear and it would seem soothing. Although you will need a properly dark room to enjoy them.

Ever since he was a few weeks old our little boy has been lulled off to sleep by the Starlight Dreamer. He's now 6 months old and it is a god send for getting him off to sleep even now that he is teething. It is a nightlight as well as a lullaby and displays circling moons and teddy bears either on the ceiling or wall. The shape of the product enables the display to be focused anywhere. For less than a tenner I think it is a wonderful purchase and another great fetaure is that despite being played every night for 6 months I have only had to change the batteries once ! I cannot speak highly enough about this product.

Review Summary: Really helps my older baby settle to sleep

We were given this light show as a gift. When our baby was newborn to be honest it didn't really help him go to sleep. From about 6 months though, it has really helped him settle and drift off to sleep. We use it most nights and the batteries seem to have held up well so far. I noticed another reviewer mentioned the attachment to the cot - it isn't particularly sturdy being just a couple of velcro straps and older babies would love to bang it through the cot bars. We overcame this problem though by placing it on the floor next to the cot, well out of reach of little hands!It's a compact enough unit that you can do this too.
